Who should wear masks?

  • Masks should be worn by all persons aged 2 years and over when leaving home unless there is a circumstance in which a person has a reasonable excuse.
  • Masks should be worn by persons home who are unwell, those who live in the household of someone who has symptoms or was exposed to COVID-19 and home caregivers in order to prevent further transmission.
  • -Masks should be worn by all healthcare workers.

What type of mask should be worn?

  • Healthcare workers should wear medical masks (including N95 respirators if needed) in addition to other protective equipment when dealing with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients.
  • The general public should wear non-medical masks such as cloth masks and these should consist of at least 3 layers of different materials.

How should masks be worn?

  • Masks should be worn over your nose and mouth and secured under your chin. The mask should fit snugly against the sides of your face.
  • You should wash your hands before putting on a mask and avoid touching it while wearing it.

Remember that masks should be used in conjunction with the following to decrease transmission:

  • Hand washing
  • Social distancing
  • Staying home and getting tested if you are unwell.
